Mad Girl Eats Mom’s Pie House in Julian CA

Mom’s Pie House, 2119 Main, Julian, CA

I took the windy, curvy, mountainous trek up to Julian,CA  Northeast of San Diego. Apple country and cafes, inns and B&Bs known for apple pie!

Mom’s Pie House was featured on the Travel Channel’s Food Paradise show, so I was up for a taste test.

Of course I had to order apple, Dutch style…although they make a nice array of flavor goodness to put a smile on any beast.

O to the M and the G. Pie freaking orgasm of nuclear dimensions. My own Mother is the only pie maker who could rival this fresh, home-baked piece of heaven.

Was it worth the nauseated car ride? Hellz yeah!

Mad Girl Eats in a Treehouse in Vista CA

The Yellow Deli, 315 East Broadway, Vista, CA

The Yellow Deli in Vista, CA was an awesome find. Open 24 hours, from Sun 12pm to Fri 3pm. This gem has a special atmosphere, an uber chic treehouse! So soothing, a great place to chill..and eat.

The food, high quality, healthy, and delish! I had organic Prairie chili..yummm. It came with a slice of in-house fresh-baked artisanal bread I fell in love with. Yes, I love bread..what’s it to ya?! To finish, I had a delightful carrot cake cream cookie. It was huge! Half I took home to have with hot coffee in the morning. I washed it all down with iced green mate’ tea. A luscious lunch!

The staff is warm and welcoming. A total pleasure. This was one of a handful of locations across the country. Can’t wait to try another!

Mad Girl Eats LA Food Truck: Kogi BBQ

Kogi BBQ Food Trucks, Los Angeles, CA area

My trusty GPS found the whereabouts of the well-known Kogi BBQ taco truck. Loving the Korean BBQ Taco Truck back home in Orlando, I opted to try my fave short rib taco against Kogi’s.

Kogi’s was average. It didn’t surpass the Orlando Korean BBQ mega hit. The short rib meat was a bit dry and lacked a smidge of flavor brightness. Kogi’s spicy pork taco was hella better, with great flavor. All were good quality. Next time I’ll try a pick off the Fan Favorites. Remember: Go with whatever the resto or food truck specializes in…you’ll probably be a happier camper.

Check out for their truck schedules and locations.

Mad Girl Eats Mad Tacos in SoCal

La Takiza, 1234 N. Sante Fe Ave, #119, Vista, CA

La Takiza in Vista, CA in North San Diego County, has tacos and burritos so dang good, you’ll want to slap your Mamasita. Burrito Pastor is my fave. This is REAL mexican food, not anything with a Bell in it’s name. Homemade tortillas are outabounds! A must stop when I’m in the San Diego area.

Happy tummy on a 4.5 scale of perfecto 5 scrumptiousness.

Mad Girl Eats Sonoran Hotdogs in Tucson

El Guero Canelo, 2480 North Oracle Rd, Tucson, AZ   plus 2 other locations in the city.

As seen on Food Wars and Man vs Food, the Sonoran hot dog at El Guero Camelo was a must try. Mad Girl went Mad Crazy for this dog! I opted for the Sammie which was the Sonoran, but added an extra frank. The specially made bun could stand on it’s own, it’s so flipping good. The 2 frankfurters and toppings of bacon, sausage, beans, grilled onions, fresh onions, tomatoes, mayo, mustard and jalapeno sauce loaded on that bun….shear ecstasy. ECTASY I say!

El Guero Canelo Sonoran Sammie hot dog….5 out of 5 bacon dipped and dripping mega smootches. A Best!

Mad Girl Eats Rudy’s BBQ in El Paso

Rudy’s Country Store and BBQ, 7970 Gateway Blvd., El Paso, TX

I came into Texas, not a big fan of beef brisket. It being the star of Texas bbq, I knew I better give it a try. I stopped at Rudy’s Country Store and Bbq, ranked high on local best restos. I ordered their moist brisket, a sausage, and Rudy beans. The sausage was nothing special, beans were good, but the star shone in their brisket. Major yum factor! Ask for some burnt ends also, so outstanding..they would have made Guy Fieri moan 😉 As I pass over the state line, I am leaving Texas a new fan of beef brisket. Big flavor. But they do everything big in Texas.

Rudy’s gets 4.5 out of 5 on the smootch-o-meter..for bbq beef brisket. Giddyup!

Mad Girl Eats Taco Taco Cafe in San Antonio

Taco Taco Cafe, 145 East Hildebrand Ave, San Antonio, TX

Taco Taco Cafe in San Antonio, named Best Taco in America by Bon Appetit magazine. Their breakfast taco, bacon and egg, along with their lunch taco, El Norteno were named best. It was brunch time so decided to try both. The bacon and egg on homemade flour tortilla, I added guacamole. Phe–nominal. The beef El Norteno was a savory powerhouse, def needed salsa to round off and brighten the flavor. Definitely worth getting off of I-10 for. Glad I stopped!

I give it 4 out of 5 taco taco loving smackaroos!

Mad Girl Eats Mad Country Fried Steak in Houston

Hickory Hollow, 101 Heights Blvd, Houston, TX

Hickory Hollow in Houston, serves mega portions of country fried steak. That is a large pizza pan holding that freakish amount of food….and that order is their MEDIUM size. Very good crust on steak, could have used a bit more seasoning, but delicious nonetheless and good quality. My iced tea came in a quart Mason jar. Score! Nice casual southern dining. This resto was featured on Outrages Food….I know why!

Mad Girl Eats

I travel, a lot. I enjoy food, a lot. I also watch food shows, a lot. This is why I seek out restaurants and food trucks that have been featured on TV. A few of my friends do as well. Did you ever wonder if the food on “Best Of” was truly the best? Or why Guy Fieri has an orgasm over so much of the food he tries? I do. I will also bring you raves and graves from other establishments when necessary.

I have been fortunate enough to try some of these tasty morsels and will share my feedback. Plus, Im headed out once again on a road trip and will bring you treats and frivolity from the road!

Oh, by the way, the “Mad” in Mad Girl Eats does not signify “angry” or “upset”, it means mad crazy for food, fun and adventure!

Love & Bacon dipped kisses! Muah!
